Now for the record I want to make one thing clear. I love having people over. I love entertaining and hanging out with people I love. When they're invited! Or if you're family (sometimes!) or a friend that has an open invitation to come over. These people know me, and accept my messy house, and un-brushed hair, with the crazy look in my eyes when I'm
Another point to clarify. The people that stop in are well meaning church members, not doing anything wrong, or purposefully (I hope) to annoy me. They just put on their "cheerful" faces and randomly show up at my door. Three times this has happened in just under four months...
- First of all, if I wanted a visit from you, I would have called or made it otherwise known that I needed to see you.
- Second of all, you show up at 7:30 at night while I'm cooking dinner (with no pants on because it's summer, and lets face it, I'm hot!)...and expect to sit and chat for an hour and a half? All the while my dinner goes cold and I can't eat it because I'm chatting with you about pumpkin farming?
Seriously?
So I decided that I"d take matters into my own hands. Instead of ducking and running whenever someone shows up, I thought I'd put them officially on notice. But being the crafty chic I am (or at least trying to be) I wanted it to be a fun way to tell them to get lost. So I whipped up this little guy.
Didn't turn out perfect, but I hope it gets the message across!
Made from one fat quarter and half an hour grumbling at my sewing machine for eating the thread, and an fabric iron on sheet that I could write on.
Here he is proudly hanging up on my front door telling the world to buzz off.
If they don't the next step will be a shotgun and a really large security guard named "knuckles".
Does this make me anti-social?

hahaha... this is AWESOME. What a great idea!
I hide from unannounced guests, too. Z gives me away now though by a little "herro??" and knocks back... oy. :)
I'm a new follower! Come follow me back at www.weidknecht.com!
Thanks for joining in the Planet Weidknecht Weekend Hop! I hope you'll come visit again next weekend.
Ha ha ha ha ha! That's too funny!!! I used to just ignore when the doorbell rang, now the 5 yr old runs through the house "MOMMY! WHO's HERE?!!!" while sticking his face in the window. Can't hide forever, I guess. Maybe I just need one of these! I think I'll change mine to something like: "NOTICE: No soliciting. We are not interested siding, windows, roofing, gutters, or any other form of home improvements, nor are we in the market for security system, water filtration, or salvation.
Do not knock - doorbell is broken." :)
I never thought I'd be embarrassed about my house until I had a child...and neighbors stop by (which I do enjoy) but then I realize how messy my house looks....ugh.....
Your project makes me laugh :)

THAT is too funny!!! I just sit super super still... and even tho Maggie is screaming (prob cuz I'm sitting so still), and the TV or radio is on, I just "wait it out" sometimes till they leave... bwahahaaha!!! You're idea is much cuter ;)

Although I feel that way sometimes when people just show up - I'm sorry you have had those experiences and feel that way. :( Have a better month. :)
I want people to always feel welcome at my house - no matter what. :) Don't care for the sign. Just tell them straight up. :)
Too funny! Maybe I shouldn't complain any more about living an hour from church. I did finally get a "No Soliciting" sign. Don't know why I didn't get that 7 years ago!!

Too funny! I would totally put something like that up!!! I just choose to ignore the door usually. If people don't like it they can kiss my butt, cuz its my door and I can open it or NOT!
Thanks for linking. The party for this week - Tea Time Thursdays @ Kreative Korner - is on. Hope to see you there with latest posts.

I had to put up a No Solicitors sign because as much as I politely told uninvited people they weren't welcome and to take me off their visitation list they didn't get nicely asking them to leave.
I had to revise my sign to say No Flyers, asking for donations or sales people because people (mostly kids) didn't know what solicitor meant. Oi!
