Adventures in Felt

I know it's been a while since I posted a project, and I'm about to make up for that right now. I just first want to take a second to thank you guys. You stick with me through my crafty dry spells and somehow still manage to inspire me and move me forward. You're AWESOME! With my new crazy work schedule I've not had a lot of time for projects, but this one was able to be worked in between working and sleep!

So as promised, here is my fantastic new project! I'm so excited to share this with you! It's taken me a while to get it done, but I'm so pleased with how it turned out. This was just an idea floating around in the recesses of my brain and I had absolutely no idea how it would turn out. I am so tickled because it turned better than I could have possibly imagined! *DANCES*

A while back I had an idea formed in my head to make a fabulous fall leaf garland. Now I'm so not a crafty person, I'm a quilter! But this idea sprung up from Pinterest (go figure...) and off we went. I grabbed me some felt and twine from the Hobby Lobby (spent a grand total of $7 and didn't use a 1/4 of what I bought!) and came home to start scheming. Some nice fall leaves would be wonderful as a garland I thought...

I printed out some templates of leaves from the internet onto card stock, and then cut them out. I traced around them onto the felt and then drew the veins of the leaves on with a sharpie. I was originally going to use black embroidery floss to outline the shapes and do the veins, but I realized with as many leaves as I was making that would take FOREVER! So I opted for the fast cheaters way and used a sharpie. Worked just as well in my opinion.

I made enough leaves to start my first garland.

When I got it done and hung up I knew I couldn't stop at just one, so I used the rest of the leaves and made a second one. I was originally going to make one long enough to go over the door, but this one turned out so cute, I had to put it over our calendar.

(don't judge too harshly the stuff on my board, that is in fact my real work schedule and life!)

Then when I still hadn't used them up, I figured it would be cute to decorate this part of my living room with some "falling leaves" so I taped them up at different lengths onto the ceiling. And now I think I need more to go everywhere else in my house.

I am so excited to share this as it turned out WAY better than I thought. And since I'm not a naturally crafty person, I thought I was going to screw this up, throw it in the trash, cry for a week and then start over. But no crying or throwing (okay some throwing happened...) to report!
The garland in a wad on my counter, ready to be hung up in all it's felt-y wonderful-ness.

Here's some more close-ups to share.
I'm just so darned proud!

We live in a basement apartment, so you can see our lovely car parked outside the window...

Yes, we need trash bags...
(hubby in the picture watching the NFL network and paying me no attention at all. I told him I'd crop him out...oops...at least he's clothed in this one...)

So easy to make, so cheap, and soooo cute! I love fall, and this is a great way to add some of my own touches to my decorations this year!

What do you guys think?
