I'm so excited to share this with you today!
Do you remember that dresser that I got from the parents?

This dresser has been in my family for 21 years. My mom found this at a second hand store right after my youngest sister was born intending to re-do it. It's stayed in the family in this condition all that time, Mom never having time to get to it. (with four kids, can you blame her?) I believe that at one time or another, everyone has used this chest of drawers. I remember using it for a quite a while in my teenage years and even into my young adult years as well.
So when my sister moved back in with Mom and Dad this was in her room taking up space. They had nowhere to put it, so I volunteered to take it off their hands. I'm so glad I did! I decided it was going to be painted, but what color scheme? I'm a quilter, not a painter, and paint kind of scares me...so I debated for a while how to redo it.
Since I'm such a purple loving
whore enthusiast I decided something in that tone...but not all out purple. So I turned to Pinterest for ideas. (when in doubt, go pinning, right?) And found a ton of re-done antique dressers that had be repainted. Then I found one in a two tone scheme and knew this was how it was going to be.

Off I went to Walmart to check out the paint samples. I found two shades I fell in love with, and the whole idea kind of gelled right there in the paint aisle. I came home with sandpaper, paint, and all manner of things to get this finished.

So away I went. I started by sanding the drawers, because I figured they were small enough that if I made a mistake they were easier to cover up than the whole thing. (didn't even occur to me to take in progress photos I was so focused on getting it done) Three layers of fingers, and four stripped down drawers later I was done, and added the paint. They looked so marvelous I figured it's only paint right? And jumped into doing the dresser. I chose not to sand it because my fingers were already objecting from the drawers. I did a light sanding on the top to make sure the paint stuck and then just went for it.
It was so awesome when it was dried I could barely wait to put the drawers in place.

And as soon as I did....

I was in love. It turned out so much better than the concept that formed in my head at the Walmart could have even begun to think up!
Then I put the hardware on it this morning and when I once thought I was in love, now I fell into a deep abiding long term relationship kind of love.

I have a frame for a mirror that attaches to the back that I eventually will paint black and attach. But right now I'll be using it for a tv stand as well as dresser and I think that the mirror would get in the way. Besides...I kind of like it like this.
Wanna see it one more time?
